Abstract:

The recent case of Thomas R. Adams et al. v. Christie’s, Inc. et al. (880 A.2d 774 (R.I. 2005)) offers a good example of how a nonprofit organization should settle an internal dispute over whether it can or should take a controversial action. The organization in question was the Providence Athenaeum, a venerable institution founded in 1753, and incorporated by act of the Rhode Island General Assembly in 1836.
