Abstract:
Evidence-based assessment (EBA) emphasizes the use of research and theory to inform the process of assessment, including the selection of assessment targets, the methods and measures used, and the implementation and follow-up (Hunsley & Mash, 2007). This review focuses on efforts to develop and promote EBA within school mental health services. Given the central role that assessment should play in evidence-based practice, there is a strong need for relevant research that can inform EBA in schools. This paper reviews specific applications of EBA in providing evidence-based treatment, challenges in developing and disseminating EBA in schools, and future directions regarding training, practice, and research in EBA.Keywords: Evidence-based assessment, school assessment, youth mental health, evidence-based practice, school mental health services
