Abstract:
As the number of older Americans continues to grow, and the reported cases of elder abuse increase, more professionals are working with older victims of abuse in later life. Elder abuse encompasses a variety of forms: physical, sexual, and emotional abuse as well as financial exploitation, neglect, self-neglect, and abandonment. Most often the victim is in an ongoing, trusting relationship with the abuser. Due to the complex nature of elder abuse, professionals often struggle to determine which agencies should be involved, which professional should be the primary contact, and who should be working together to respond to different scenarios. Keywords: inappropriate referrals; Is it Elder Abuse, Domestic Violence, or Abuse in Later Life?; recognition of shared population
