Abstract:

Violence pervades the lives of many people around the world and touches everyone in some way. The phenomenon of elder abuse has received growing public and professional attention. If this social problem is not addressed, it will likely become even more significant, since the number of people over 65 is expected to double during the next 25 years. Understanding the phenomenon and developing specific measures to deal with it are essential to reduce the amount of elder abuse now and to prevent it from happening in the future. The International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (INPEA) was founded in 1997 and is dedicated to the global dissemination of information as part of its commitment to worldwide prevention of elder abuse.
