Abstract:
On March 26, 2002, William Cotter broke into the marital home and shot and killed his wife Dorothy, while their 12-year-old daughter hid upstairs under her bed, before turning the gun on himself. He did this despite a protective order prohibiting him from going to the home. Cotter knew Dorothy was scheduled to go to court the next day to extend her order. This article is a first-person account of some of the issues of the case.Keywords: identification of high risk cases; avoiding the shelter
