Abstract:
Nursing homes are supposed to provide a safe physical environment; the premise for nursing home admission is the resident’s inability to live safely in the community. Yet, there is evidence of the hazards of bed rails, which pose a significant choking hazard. A more recently observed problem is the inefficacy of alarms and sensors in preventing patient injuries. Keywords: hazards of bed rails; choking; alarms; sensors; Consumer Product Safety Commission; CPSC; Flores vs. Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital
