Abstract:
This article discusses the potential benefits of future-oriented, reentry court systems. Unlike traditional jurisprudence, reentry courts are future-oriented rather than focused on the past. The reentry court’s role can be reasonably understood as dispensing “reintegration”– not release from prison or supervision (as is the traditional role of the parole board), but rather a release from the stigma of the original conviction. Reentry courts work to facilitate opportunities to make amends for what one has done and the recognition of these contributions and accomplishments. Keywords: reentry court
