Abstract:

This article describes the containment approach to dealing with sexual offenders released from correctional facilities. The containment approach to managing sexual offenders involves close corrections supervision, intensive cognitive-behavioral treatment, and strong accountability through polygraph examinations. Edson et al. believe strongly in the value of a containment approach to the management of sexual offenders in the community. Here, the authors describe the approach, the philosophy behind it, and its ultimate goal of reducing recidivism among sex offenders.
