Abstract: 

In this article a University of Sheffield team of researchers conducts a study, using focus groups and other methods, of the quality of English probation services. The findings center on seven themes: relational processes; resources; social work–grounded practices;skills and knowledge; going beyondnational standards; support from colleagues; and outcome-oriented practice.
