Abstract:
This article presents, first, a review of the literature on quality improvement models designed to enhance organizational change. Next, it highlights evidence of one QI model’s use—the Plan-Do- Study-Act (PDSA) model—within probation. Finally, it offers some theoretical and practical implications of using QI models within modern correctional organizations. Throughout the article, we note the limited scholarly evidence showing effective and/or effi cient process improvements from QI model use. Keywords: total quality management (TQM); continuous quality improvement (CQI); identifying the underlying causes of poor performance; improve outcomes; meet customer needs; The Change Book; Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) model; The Network for the Improvement of Ad
