Abstract:
Numerous studies have demonstrated that female detainees are more likely than their male counterparts to suffer from a wide range of behavioral problems, including symptoms of trauma, addiction, and other psychological disorders. This study focused on women in the CCDOC’s gender-specific substance abuse treatment program and drew on data collected as part of one of the most extensive and comprehensive assessments of women’s needs conducted in the jail. Specifically, the investigation explored women’s perceptions of clinical staff, fellow clients, and the treatment milieu. Keywords: Cook County; gender-responsive services; therapeutic community (TC) model; 12-step program; Needs Inventory; Global Appraisal of Individual Needs (GAIN); substance abuse
