Abstract:

A transsexual prisoner seeks treatment prescribed for her by the Massachusetts Department of Corrections’ (DOC) doctors as the only form of adequate medical care for her condition. Kosilek’s disorder is an undisputed serious medical need and the weight of medical opinion is that without the sex reassignment surgery Kosilek will again attempt suicide.
