Abstract: 

Bob Powitsky came to Oklahoma in 1999 with a mandate to improve healthcare provided to its prison inmates. Bob is a Ph.D. psychologist with a long commitment to correctional mental health care. He quickly realized the futility of treating and stabilizing an inmate with mental illness only to release the person to the void of a community barren of mental health services even for non-offenders, and embarked on the design of a comprehensive reentry program that addressed the needs of mentally disordered inamtes released into the community. The principles and practices of his program are outlined by Michael Ollove, writing in the Pew Center’s Stateline.
