Abstract:

The surviving grandmother of a jail inmate sued for damages after her grandson hung himself in his cell; clearly suffering from mental distress, he received no special care or supervision although an obvious suicide risk We examine the facts and legal issues in a case where defendants’ motions for summary judgment were denied and the case will proceed to trial or settlement with the possibility of Monell issues and liability for the jail and staff.
