Abstract:

In addition to all the single articles listed separately, the complete issue includes shorter treatments on the use of solitary confinement in the Illinois and Minnesota prison systems; a recent hearing monitoring compliance with a series of consent decrees in a 40-year old lawsuit over conditions in the Maricopa county Jail; and an analysis of conditions in the Tulsa Oklahoma County Jail, where an Army veteran suffering from bipolar disorder died while in custody from injuries sustained during his arrest and detention—one of at least 20 detainees who have died at the jail in similarly violent circumstances since 2010.
