Abstract: 

Kirk Gable, along with his brother Robert, is credited with inventing the first remote electronic monitoring device. In this brief commentary, Gable examines a number of persistent obstacles to the effective use of EM, including a lack of understanding of its potential, insufficient resources for its implementation and full exploitation, and inadequate sharing of data and experience.
