Abstract:
The evidence that the proportion of drivers operating under the influence of drugs is increasing, together with an awareness that the use of both prescription drugs and illegal drugs continues to expand, is of concern to the NYS Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee (GTSC) and the state’s Advisory Council on Impaired Driving. To address this concern, the GTSC funded the Institute for Traffic Safety Management and Research (ITSMR) to conduct a study on drugs and driving to determine the extent to which driving under the under the influence of drugs is a problem on New York roadways. Keywords: Drug Test Results for Fatally Injured Drivers; Alcohol-Related Crashes; Personal Injury Crashes; passenger; pedestrian; bicyclist; Manner of Collision; gender; age; ticket issued
