Abstract:

This RID five-year study, co-sponsored by the STOP-DWI Program, Rensselaer County (NY), covers self-described DWI/DUI history recorded on mandated evaluations of 1,951 convicted drunken drivers in Rensselaer County, NY. The research for this project attempts to prove to what extent victim impact panels are effective. In the study described in this article, RID collected basic information from convicted DWI/DUI offenders who were mandated to attend a victim impact panel (VIP) in Rensselaer County, NY.
