Abstract:

Ask any DUI/DWI program facilitator to describe the attitude of the typical offender the first night of class and you are likely to be regaled with colorful tales of injustice, indifference, emphatic innocence, or just plain annoyance with their arrest and their mandated participation in education or treatment. However, somewhere between the first 10 minutes of the first session and the final session, a rather remarkable transformation can take place for program participants. This article looks at ways to help offenders change as they go through treatment.
