Abstract:
Encounters between police and local citizens have sparked a national conversation about race and the law, and have also implicitly highlighted the disproportionate levels of poverty and other risk factors for crime in minority communities. As this review of recent research literature and policy articles underscores, partnerships rather than conflict between police and communities have the greatest chance of cultivating cooperation in introducing needed reforms. Keywords: Geography of Opportunity; substance abuse and health in low-income areas; wealth gap
