Abstract:
College newspapers are a key means of communicating ideas to members of the college community, and advertisers view college newspapers as an important marketing tool. When either a college administration or an outside governmental body, such as a state agency, enacts rules that prevent certain advertisers from gaining access to the college publication, First Amendment challenges are certain to be brought. First Amendment litigation has arisen in some cases where commercial enterprises have been prevented from placing advertisements in college newspapers, and when political advertisers have been kept out of the college newspaper. Keywords: Alcohol-Related Advertisements; Educational Media Company at Virginia Tech.
