Abstract:

In May of 2002, Harvard University made public some modifications of its campus judicial procedures. Included in these changes is a strong political statement about date rape. Harvard has decided it will only investigate those complaints of sexual assault that are corroborated, either by the existence of witnesses or by the presence of physical evidence. Those complaints it declines to investigate will be referred for mediation. This article discusses this decision, what it represents, and the setbacks it causes for students and victims of rape.
