Abstract:
Raymond D. Leavitt, an inmate under custody of the Maine Department of Corrections alleged that he was denied adequate medical treatment for HIV while incarcerated at the York County Jail (YCJ) and the Maine State Prison (MSP). In these times of economic uncertainty and rising health care costs, states are looking at various means to deal with the high costs of incarceration. The State of Illinois has enacted a provision, 730 IL.C.S. 5/3-7-6a, to recoup some of those costs. Keywords: AIDS, blood work, viral load, reimbursement, Illinois v. Hawkins, assets
