Abstract:

“Connections” is the key concept needed as the foundation of any gender-responsive transition initiative. Critical to quality transition are connections among the women in the facility community, between facility staff and residents, between the facility and the community, and among collaborative partners who serve as a tightly woven support net for women returning to the community of their choice. By working with the state’s Serious and Violent Offender Reentry Initiative (SVORI), the women’s prison in Maine has established these connections to promote thriving reentry outcomes for its transitioning women while implementing principles of best practice and positive psychology.
