Abstract:

The delivery of reentry services has been seriously disrupted by the COVID-19 outbreak and the subsequent lockdowns and changes in operating procedures that have been required to comply with public heath directives. New ways of delivering supervision services have had to be developed and office visits have had to be modified to provide for staff and client safety. This need to focus attention on the needs of both client and frontline staff has surfaced as a major concern as the pandemic continues to ravage populations around the world. As we face the future, what needs to be considered regarding the role of community corrections? This year, the pandemic has exposed gaps and weaknesses in all societies, and it has also made it clear that a wealth gap has led to increases in inequality that have given rise to serious distrust of forms of government and the role of large corporations around the world.
