Our regular summary of literature includes reviews of three new books “Guilty People” by Abbe Smith, published by Rutgers University Press; “We Are Not Slaves: State Violence, Coerced Labor, and Prisoners’ Rights in Postwar America” and “Caging Borders and Carceral States: Incarcerations, Immigration Detentions, and Resistance,” both by Robert T. Chase and both published by University of North Carolina Press.
