Abstract: 

A negative drug confirmation result does not mean that there are no drugs in the sample. This article outlines how San Mateo County Probation dealt with inaccurate drug test results from a SAMSHA-certified confirmation lab. More accurate results were obtain when the department adopted a new confirmation testing regime using limit of quantitation (LOQ) cut-off levels and admission-of-use forms.
