Abstract:

Supervising parole populations across the United States has become increasingly challenging given the sheer numbers of parolees who need to be supervised, the fact that punitive sentencing policies have not abated, and potential reductions in budget allocations and resources given the economic conditions of most state governments. Most parolees are released into areas of high crime rates and community violence that have very little support infrastructure. This analysis tests the concentration effects of reentering parolees and community violence to determine the potential impact on recidivism and future offending.
