Abstract: 

Our regular review of the literature assembles 12 interesting and informative current releases that touch on a number of important themes, including deinstitutionalization and the rise of mass incarceration, an exploration of how crime runs in families, a discussion of early release from prison in England and Wales, a street photographer’s portrayal of women addicts that raises questions about how best to avert the wastefulness of their lives, the challenges of women’s imprisonment, three books devoted to what has transpired since the Kerner Commission Report, and three books on recent research in criminal justice and criminology.
