Abstract: 

This article provides a retrospective of developments in community corrections, with attention given to programs for special populations involved with the justice system, including veterans, the developmentally disabled, women, and substance abusers. It is based on the author’s address upon receiving the International Community Corrections Association’s Margaret Mead Award for outstanding contributions to the field of community corrections.
