Abstract:

In psychiatric training, residents are consistently educated on the importance of boundaries. COs and related correctional staff spend much more time interacting with inmates than therapists do by a very wide margin. Might any of the lessons on boundaries from psychotherapy also apply to the correctional staff-inmate “rehabilitation” relationship? This article focuses on boundary violations by COs and other correctional staff, their causes, consequences, and how to prevent them.
