Abstract:
The Urban Institute recently completed a study of 1,192 staffed grantmaking foundations to assess foundation opinions on the most effective operational standards and practices. The study, Attitudes and Practices Concerning Effective Philanthropy, was funded by the David and Lucile Packard Foundation (www.packard.org) in conjunction with Grantmakers for Effective Organizations (www.geofunders.org). The report’s goal was to create a baseline for operational and grantmaking trend analysis and develop case studies to help foundations improve accountability and performance,a timely topic given the recent congressional hearings and media coverage. Keywords:
