Abstract: 

Sometimes it’s not easy to make a charitable gift, even a big one. Michigan philanthropist and businessman Fred Meijer recently offered the Michigan State Department of Natural Resources Trust Fund a $1 million donation to be used to pave the White Pine Trail between Grand Rapids and Cadillac in Western Michigan. He had financed several Michigan trail projects in the past, but this was a much larger undertaking.
