Abstract: 

Savvy family foundations know that site visits are a powerful tool to assess potential applicants and to establish strong relationships with grantees. Further, these visits typically lead to successful and rewarding funding decisions. This article addresses the key rationales and objectives that are essential to an informative and productive site visit. It discusses who should make site visits, when, and why.
