Abstract: 

This article details the complexities of sexual assault, harassment, and coercion, the unique pressures presented by life in the military as a victim of sexual assault, the constricting nature of command chains and camaraderie, and the results for those who are accused or suspected of assaulting another serviceperson. In addition to providing an overview of the rates related to sexual assault in the military, the article outlines specific concerns in this unique environment, and sets the scene for reports forthcoming about the current cases as the proceed through the justice system.
