Abstract:

On July 16, 2012, the Rhode Island American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed a legal challenge to the state’s residence restriction law on behalf of three registered sex offenders. Named defendants in the case are the State of Rhode Island, the Rhode Island Attorney General, and the Providence Police Department. The ACLU is challenging the state’s residence restriction law, passed in 2008 as an amendment to the state’s Sexual Offender Registration and Community Notification Act (SORCNA).
