Abstract:

To explain the tendencies for rape and sexual coercion exhibited by some individuals, and to develop a reliable indicator of the potential for such behavior, the behavioral and social sciences have studied various models. In a two-part series that begins in this issue of SLR, Scot Boeringer outlines a study comparing the reliability and usefulness of three such models. Part I, presented here, surveys some of the literature related to sexual coercion and rape. Part II, which will appear in the next issue of SLR, will describe the models used in this study and present the results.
