Abstract: 

In Kansas v. Hendricks, 521 U.S. 346 (1997), the Supreme Court upheld the Kansas Sexually Violent Predator Act against several federal constitutional challenges. Numerous states have used the Kansas law as a model for their own civil commitment laws.
