Abstract:

There have been numerous responses in the form of “get tough” laws and optimistic treatment plans intended to deal with sex offenders, a highly recidivist group, who are released after serving time for sex crime convictions. (See Table 1: Treatment and Monitoring of Sex Offenders.) One of the most common of these laws are the so-called Megan’s Laws, which require certain sex offenders to register with local law enforcement after they have served their sex offense convictions and are released from prison.
