Abstract: 

Commentators have suggested that sexual harassment is a reflection of male dominance over women, which perpetuates a patriarchal social system. (Similar analyses have been made about rape.) In the Creation of Patriarchy, Gerda Lerner uses archeological, historical, and prehistorical evidence spanning 2,500 years of Near East human history to build a muticausal theory concerning the development and creation of the idea of patriarchy and the existing patriarchal system in Western civilization.
