Abstract:
Editor’s Note: In Part I of this article, the author argued for legal uniformity in sexual misconduct cases—both secular and religious—and discussed the different avenues of liability facing persons accused of sexual misconduct. (See Jack S. Furlong, “Sex Abuse in the Church: Charging the Catholics, Part I,” 5 (4) SLR 37 (Jun./Jul. 2004).) Part II, in the previous issue of this journal, discussed the implications of delayed reporting, including its ramifications on investigations and the lives of the accused, and argued for a limit to the statutes of limitation. (Jack S. Furlong, “Sex Abuse in the Church: Charging the Catholics, Part II,” 5 (5) SLR 53 (Aug./Sept. 2004).) Part III, below, discusses charitable immunity and the payment of settlements, and offers suggestions for resolving long term issues. Keywords:
