Sex Offender Law Report

Abstract:

This article will focus largely on sexual offending, but I would emphasize that this is done from the broader context of involvement with all persons affected by past sexual offending behavior. Over the course of the last 20 plus years, there has been increased awareness of child sexual abuse in Canada that was not reported or identified at the time it occurred, but was addressed in a therapeutic setting when the victim was an adult. The reasons for such matters not being addressed by the courts are complex and varied. In the past 20 years, criminal charges have become more common, but the number of victims who pursue charges continues to be a small portion of those who actually experience this sexual violation.
