Abstract: 

The death penalty has traditionally been imposed only on the most serious of crimes, such as murder or heinous, violent rape. Lately, however, despite the concurrent outcry against the cruelty of subjecting a felon to the death penalty by lethal injection, which has been shown by examples around the country to be less than peaceful and painless as it was once propounded, the death penalty has been applied to crimes that involve something less than the victim’s death.
