Abstract:

In every generation, someone makes the same observation that a previous generation made: Kids grow up quicker these days. Today’s youth are always more sophisticated than their predecessors, even—or especially—when it comes to sex. Research indicates that approximately half of all U.S. teenagers have had sexual intercourse. (S. Singh and J.E. Darroch, “Trends in Sexual Activity Among Adolescent American Women: 1982-1995,” 31 (5) Family Planning Perspectives (Sept./Oct. 1999).) In a recent survey of 100 New York City high school students, 55 stated that they had engaged in sexual intercourse and 51 that they had performed oral sex.
