Abstract: 

The issue of generalization and specialization is of critical importance when considering sex offender policy. Current policies are based on the assumption that sex offenders specialize in committing sexual offenses and recidivate at high rates. The research on sex offenders does not support these assumptions. This article summarizes the literature on this topic.
