Abstract:

The number of developmentally disabled adults who live in residential care is likely to increase over the next decade. This trend is expected to continue in many states as budgets are slashed further and plans for closing institutions advance. This means that an increasing number of ID adults (adults with intellectual disabilities) will be moving to community-based residential facilities in the near future. Part of adult residential life is sex, and ID adults have the same sexual urges, fantasies, and desires as more neurotypical adults. Moreover, they have the same rights to sexual expression as all adults.
