Abstract:
Written by a team of authors with extensive experience working with individuals who have been charged or convicted of sexual crimes, this article assesses the strengths and shortcomings of the leading contemporary approaches to the management of sexual offenders in institutional and community settings, with an emphasis on three well-known models of treatment: Risk-Need-Responsivity (RNR), the Good Lives Model (GLM), and the Integrated Risk Assessment and Treatment System Model (IRATS) developed by Abracen, Looman, & Ferguson. For each treatment approach, the authors explore treatment and delivery style, and effectiveness as measured by recidivism data and other outcomes studies. Keywords: Risk-Need-Responsivity (RNR); Good Lives Model (GLM); Integrated Risk Assessment and Treatment System Model (IRATS); Therapeutic Alliance
