Abstract:
This article examines the incidence, diagnostic markers, assessment, consequences, and treatment of offenses involving child pornography, also referred to as child sexual exploitation material (CSEM). During the past decade, as the number of CSEM offenders has grown, so has the research to provide evaluators with guidance. The authors summarize the most important current research, review categories of offenses and rates of escalation to contact sex offending, and explore the tasks and tools of evaluation, including risk assessment and preparation of evaluative reports for use by attorneys, agencies, and therapists. Keywords: CSEM (Child Sexual Exploitation Material); “Fantasy-Driven” and “Contact-Driven” Offenders; CPORT; STABLE-2007
