Abstract:

In SLR Volume 26, Number 6 (Oct-Nov 19), we introduced coverage of the sex trafficking case of Jeffrey Epstein, the deceased financier. The first installment detailed the allegations of some of Epstein’s most prominent accusers and examined the facts revealed in newly publicized indictments against Epstein. This article focuses on Epstein’s paraphilias. It outlines the definition of “pedophilic disorder” and related terminology, some of which has been used in news reports about the case. The article explores how to characterize Epstein’s paraphilic behavior beyond the laypersons’ terms applied in news and legal accounts of his criminality.
