Abstract: 

Current SO sentencing guidelines are for the most part highly punitive and one size fits all in their approach. In other words, the majority of sex offenders are treated as if they are an ongoing high-level danger to society, even though their motivations for offending, likely response to informed treatment, and potential for reoffending may vary greatly. This article descibes two offenders both of whom were arrested for possession of child pornography and discusses the need for clinical insight into who these people are and the dangers they may or may not pose.
